Research

My research focuses primarily on the analysis and development of mathematical simulation tools for porous media flow applications.  The specific applications range from filtration and separation environments to agricultural water management.

I am particularly motivated by problems which allow me to work in an interdisciplinary environment.  One of the research teams I’m on used mathematics to to help drought-stricken farmers in California.  Our work was featured in a PBS NewsHour Science Friday segment, "How Math Is Growing More Strawberries in California", and an NSF Discovery article, "Strawberries With a Thirst".  I work with colleagues in chemical engineering to simulate affinity membranes used to improve the production of biopharmaceuticals.  These problems are exciting, as I get to work on issues which I hope improve the lives of people around the globe.

Here’s a link to a listing of some of my papers.
